L-com AEMC-CA879 digital thermometer

CA879 infrared thermometer is a non-contact temperature measuring instrument. It provides precise measurements with its laser target characteristics. To measure the temperature of an object,simply point the gun at the surface and the temperature will appear on the digital display. The thermometer has an automatic shut-off feature. It will turn off approximately 10 seconds after the trigger is released. All objects with a temperature above absolute zero (-273.15 K) emit infrared energy. This energy radiates in all directions at the speed of light. When the gun is pointed at an object,the detector's lens senses this energy and focuses it onto an infrared detector consisting of a stack of thermocouples. The voltage signal generated by the detector is proportional to the energy received and therefore proportional to the temperature of the object. Some objects emit infrared energy but also reflect it. Unlike matte surfaces,glossy or highly polished surfaces tend to reflect energy. This reflection is represented by a factor called emissivity,which may range from 0.1 for highly reflective objects to 1 (for black objects). In the case of the model CA879 infrared thermometer,the emissivity is preset to 0.95,which is the most common value and covers approximately 90% of all applications.
