Inside the microchip are processing circuits to provide output in absolute SSI,incremental,linear voltage,tachometer and UVW formats with resolutions up to 12 bits. The zero position can also be selected at the mounting point.,programmable via a two-wire interface (TWI) compatible with the I2C protocol. TWI allows up to 128 individually addressable devices to be connected using two directional buses. The chip can operate from 3V or 5V supplies and can enter a power-down state designed for battery-powered applications.,the chip uses the proven OnAxis™ sensing principle. The encoder IC senses the position of a diameter polarized magnet placed above the chip.,an array of Hall sensors within the chip produces a voltage representation of the magnetic field distribution as the magnet rotates. Subsequent internal processing is then used to produce the required output signal format and resolution.,with such a flexible design,the AM4096 can be used for a wide range of non-contact position or speed measurement,such as motor motion control and commutation,robotics,camera positioning,various encoder applications,battery-operated equipment and other applications requiring high resolution.
