Atracsys was founded in 2004 on the basis of years of research at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. The Atracsys motion capture system is a real-time passive/active optical tracking system developed by the Swiss company Atracsys. It is specially designed to detect and track reflective balls,reflective surfaces and infrared lights in real-time video. Boasting extremely high accuracy and an interpolation-free measurement rate of 335 Hz,the Atracsys motion capture system consists of two cameras that simultaneously observe reflective and/or active fiducials (infrared lights) and use triangulation to calculate their position. When several reference points are fixed to the marked points,the system can determine the data of its 6 degrees of freedom (x,y,z,α,β,γ).

Through the SDK,data can be accessed in real time at different stages of the program,inc the original image,the individual 3D position of each fiducial point (reflective ball and reflective plane/infrared light),and the 6-degree-of-freedom data of the marker point. The SDK also provides multi-level fault checking,which allows real-time access to error information at any stage of processing: degree of fiducial occlusion,sphere calibration cancellation,marker registration errors,etc. Atracsys motion capture systems can be customized to meet your requirements (e.g. accuracy level,acquisition speed,measurement range,etc.).
In addition,the system is compatible with passive image-guided surgical tools currently widely used in the medical field. The Atracsys motion capture system has unparalleled measurement speed,accuracy and latency,making it ideal for applications related to medical robots and surgical navigation and positioning.
