Strain gauge sets are used to mechanically measure the strain of masonry materials or structural components under load, the relative displacement of structures, the opening or closing of cracks, the shrinkage of concrete blocks during drying and similar applications. The anodized aluminum alloy instrument frame adjusts to measure 2,4,6,8 or 10 inches (5,10,15,20,25 cm for metric) between the punch stem and the invar main stem. Brass inserts are installed in the specimen at selected intervals to secure the stainless steel contact seats, which are threaded into place in the insert. A hardened steel contact point mounted within a strain gage frame and used to locate the contact seat for strain measurement on a dial indicator. The HM-240 indicator has a 0.0001in (0.002mm for HM-240F) scale,a maximum travel of 0.4in (10mm),and a strain measurement range of 0.3in (7.6mm). The digital model HM-240D can be switched to 0.0001in or 0.001mm and has a data output interface. The strain gauge assembly consists of a strain gauge dial indicator, eight brass inserts, two contact seats, two mounted contact points and a wooden storage box. Box includes slots for Invar main rod attachment and punch rod attachment, not included but will need to be ordered in imperial or metric as needed. The main stem is equipped with a stainless steel seat insert for checking instrument space settings. The die bar has a fixed point and a movable point for precise positioning of the brass insert in the specimen. ET. Boat weight: 4 lbs (2 kg).
