The beam rheometer (BBR) measures the flexural creep stiffness of asphalt binders at low temperatures (ambient temperature -40°C). A constant load was applied to the center of a small asphalt concrete beam specimen,and the deflection of the beam was measured and recorded. Testing and parameter input can be quickly and easily set up via a PC with pre-installed software. Displays load,displacement and bath temperature,and displays graphs of displacement,load and temperature throughout the test cycle. Stiffness is calculated at the lowest expected temperature. The HM-59 BBR is constructed of stainless steel and durable high-strength polymer. The unit uses an air bearing system (minimum 50 PSIG,requires clean,dry compressed air source) to ensure reliable loading and obtain accurate and repeatable results. Linear variable displacement transducer (LVDT) with a range of 6.35mm and accuracy of ±2¼m,used to measure deflection. Temperature compensated 500g load cell with mechanical overload protection ensures accurate load results. Safe and rapid cooling of the test fluid (ethylene glycol/water/methanol) to -40°C (-40°F) is provided by a mechanical refrigeration system. Process temperature is controlled and monitored by two independent platinum resistance temperature sensors to maintain temperature stability.,the HM-59 includes a computer with preloaded control,acquisition and analysis software,five aluminum specimen molds with Mylar strips,a calibration kit with required weights and confidence bundles. Each system comes with calibrated test weights and certified LVDT NIST traceable standards.
