Solidity testing of aggregates requires repeated soaking cycles in sodium sulfate or magnesium sulfate solutions,followed by drying. Rehydration of salt simulates the expansion of frozen water. The samples are then washed,dried and sieved to determine the percentage loss of the original sample. The stent is then immersed in a bucket of solution con sulfate solution. The use of a refrigerated circulator and water bath is only necessary when the temperature of the sulfate solution cannot be maintained at the specified 70°F (21°C). The coarse aggregate sample sieve can accommodate materials coarser than No. 4 for soaking. Sieves are available in 8-inch (203mm) diameter,half screen,full screen,or special double-height stainless steel No. 10 screens. For large samples,two or more double-height screens may be required.
