The TCS3771 family of devices provides red,green,blue and clear (RGBC) light sensing and proximity detection (when connected to an external IR LED). They detect light intensity through various attenuating materials under various lighting conditions. The close-range detection feature allows a large dynamic operating range for short-range detection behind dark glass,such as on mobile phones,or for long-range measurements,such as presence detection on monitors or laptops. Programmable proximity detection enables continuous measurement over the entire range. Additionally,an internal state machine provides the ability to place the device into a low-power mode between RGBC and proximity measurements,which provides very low average power consumption. This data is transferred to the host via I2C.
