The TIR-570 total infrared radiometer represents the latest technology for accurate on-site measurement of downlink broadband atmospheric infrared irradiance. The TIR-570 uses an advanced chopper pyroelectric detector and precision interference filter,combined with an independent blackbody light source,to measure spectral irradiance from 4 to 30μm. Global climate researchers now have a routine tool for high-precision field atmospheric infrared measurements. The detector assembly consists of a blackbody radiation calibration source,a stepper motor driven rotary chopper and a pyroelectric detector mounted in a common housing. The electronics enclosure contains microprocessor-controlled data acquisition and digital lock-in amplifier circuitry.,the TIR-570's broadband infrared measurements supplement total solar radiation measured by a pyranometer,such as the TSP-700 model. A unique,internal blackbody radiation source supports zero detection and is key to the system's excellent long-term calibration stability. It overcomes the problem of visible light signal contamination that has plagued passive infrared radiometers in the past.
