Introduction

Chemical Oxygen DemandAlso known as chemical oxygen demand (chemicaloxygendemand),referred to as COD. It uses chemical oxidants (such as potassium permanganate) to oxidize and decompose oxidizable substances (such as organic matter,nitrite,ferrous salts,sulfides,etc.) in the water,and then calculates the oxygen consumption based on the amount of oxidants. Like biochemical oxygen demand (BOD),it is an important indicator of water pollution. The unit of COD is ppm or mg/L. The smaller the value,the lighter the water pollution.
Indrinking water standardsthe chemical oxygen demand (COD) of Class I and II water is ≤15 mg/L,the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of Class III water is ≤20 mg/L,and the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of Class IV water is ≤20 mg/L. Oxygen demand (COD) ≤ 30mg/L,Class V water chemical oxygen demand (COD) ≤ 40mg/L. The larger the value of COD,the more serious the pollution of the water body is.
