Microchip
Company Homepage
Microchip is an American microcontroller and analog semiconductor manufacturer founded in 1989, providing low-risk product development, lower total system cost and faster time to market for thousands of consumer products around the world.
Development History
In 1987, General Instrument spun off its microelectronics division into a wholly owned subsidiary. In 1989, after the subsidiary was acquired by a group of entrepreneurial investors, Microchip Technology became an independent company and went public in 1993.
In April 2009, Microchip Technology released the microwatt XLP microcontroller (the world's lowest sleep current).
In 2009, Microchip Technology had sold more than 6 billion microcontrollers.
In April 2010, Microchip Technology acquired Silicon Storage Technology (SST). In May of the same year, it sold certain SST flash memory assets to Green Link Systems.
As of 2011, Microchip Technology sells more than 1 billion processors every year.
In September 2011, Microchip Technology sold its 10 billionth PIC microprocessor.
In August 2012, Microchip Technology acquired Standard Microsystems Corporation (SMSC).
In January 2016, Microchip Technology announced its acquisition of Atmel for US$3.56 billion.
product line
Since its establishment, Microchip has paid close attention to the embedded control semiconductor product market. In order to occupy the market, we concentrated all resources in technology, design, production, sales and other aspects to develop two major products: PIC8-bit microcontroller (MCU) and high-quality serial EEPROM. So far, Microchip has launched microcontroller peripherals, analog products, RFID smart cards, and KEELOQ security products to design more comprehensive and valuable embedded control system solutions to meet the growing needs of users.
Products manufactured by Microchip include: PIC® Microcontrollers, dsPIC® Digital Signal Controllers, Analog and Interfaces, Memory, Embedded Wireless, Wireless Audio, Embedded Security, Touch and Gesture Sensing, RF Front Ends, Real-Time Clocks, Development Systems, Automotive , USB and Ethernet, computing, field programmable gate arrays, etc.
