On June 15, 2020, KEMET was merged by YAGEO-Yageo Corporation (Taiwan Stock Exchange: 2327). The combined organization will become a powerhouse in electronic passive components with a leading product portfolio including polymers, tantalum, Ceramic, film and electrolytic capacitors, chip resistors, circuit protection and magnetic components, sensors, actuators and inductors, all serving a full range of end-use markets. In addition, the company will have a larger global footprint and will be better able to work with long-term blue-chip customers around the world.

history

KEMET's name is a blend of "chemistry" and "metallurgy." KEMET's first products were superalloys for vacuum tubes used in power grids.

In 1930, the product line expanded to include barium aluminum alloy go-getters, the basic element in every vacuum tube. Its sales volume of tantalum capacitors ranks first in the world and it occupies a global leadership position in the field of passive electronic technology.

In 1962, the capacitor business experienced very rapid growth. By the late 1960s, KEMET clearly established the United States as a major capacitor manufacturer, with the leading market share in solid tantalum capacitors. In order to expand KEMET's product range and allow it to continue its rapid growth, it was decided to enter the multilayer ceramic capacitor business.

On April 1, 1987, KEMET was acquired by Union Carbide Corporation.

On October 21, 1992, KEMET successfully IPOed.

KEMET has production plants in 11 countries including the United States, China and Mexico, and a global sales and distribution network.

...

Since its founding in 1919, KEMET has been working to make the world a better, safer and more connected place to live. What started in one inventor's garage lab now spans dozens of locations around the world and thousands of KEMET employees. We played a central role in the development of key technologies that define modern history. Although we are not a household name, our products are. Our stories of innovation are relevant to the 20th century and beyond. We are shaped into tomorrow.
