Laird Technologies is an industry-leading EMI solutions provider, delivering innovative designs by manufacturing custom, performance-critical products in every available material and size. Products include board-level shielding, combination shielding, ferrite shielding, EMI gaskets, vent panels and shielding windows, finger gaskets and conductive elastomers, as well as cloth-covered foam gaskets, form-in-place gaskets, and conductive foam and fabric. Laird Technologies continues to invent and improve new materials, new processes and new products to solve EMI problems. Custom product solutions are designed for customers in all markets in the electronics and wireless industries, including computing, telecommunications, data transmission and information technology, automotive, consumer, aerospace, defense, medical and industrial markets.

company's history

The company was founded in Liverpool in 1824 by John Laird as Birkenhead Ironworks. In 1903 it merged with Charles Cammell & Company Limited and built several ships for the Royal Navy as Cammell Laird. In 1976, its transport division (trading as Metro-Cammell) secured a major order to build public transport railway carriages for Hong Kong's public transport system.

In 1977, its shipbuilding operations were nationalized; in 1989, its mass transit rail activities were disposed of. In the 1980s, it moved into security products, and in the 1990s, into electronics. In 2000, it disposed of its automotive industry activities[5]; and more recently in 2007, it disposed of its safety business. In 2008, the company changed from Laird Group PLC to Laird PLC.

The company has expanded its electronics business through mergers and acquisitions, with the acquisitions of Wisconsin-based LS Research in November 2015 and Novello, Germany in December 2015.

In March 2018, Advent International made an offer worth £1 billion to the company. The transaction was completed in July 2018.

Laird Connectivity’s innovative solutions – including Sentrius™ RG1xx and IP67 gateways, RS1xx sensors, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) modules and LPWAN antennas – enable simple, off-the-shelf integration and compatibility with third-party network providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and LoRa Network Ecosystem Partners.
