company's history

1946, Switchcraft Company was founded in 1946 to manufacture sockets, plugs and switches primarily for the communications industry. The original factory was located on West Deworthy Street in Chicago. In 1948, the company moved to a larger facility at 1328 North Halsted Street, and in 1958 it moved to a 185,000-square-foot facility at 5555 North Elston Avenue, The factory remains the headquarters and is the largest of the company's three manufacturing locations today.

In 1977, Switchcraft was acquired by Raytheon Corporation and operated as an independent subsidiary of its commercial division for 20 years. During this time, Switchcraft expanded its production capabilities to include vertical integration for cost-effective production in the United States. They also expanded into harsh environment connector products, which expanded the company's market growth.

In 1997, Raytheon made a strategic decision to focus solely on the defense industry. Therefore, they relinquished all interest in the business shares. At that time Switchcraft was sold to company management and a private equity firm.

1999 In 1999, Switchcraft acquired circular connector and cable assembly manufacturer Conxall to expand its offering of harsh environment connectivity products. They are located in a 32,000 square foot facility in Villa Park, Illinois. This strategic acquisition supports Switchcraft's expansion into the industrial market.

In 2011, Switchcraft was acquired by HEICO Corporation and became part of its Electronic Technology Group. Switchcraft is a premier supplier of harsh environment connectivity products to the industrial market and a premier connectivity provider to the professional audio and broadcast industries.
