Overview

ROHM was founded in Kyoto in 1958 as a manufacturer of small electronic components. Production expanded to transistors and diodes in 1967, and ICs and other semiconductor products were added in 1969. Two years later (1971), contrary to traditional Japanese business culture, ROHM became the first Japanese company to enter Silicon Valley in the United States and opened an IC design center in Silicon Valley. With the scale of the enterprise at that time, relying on innovative ideas called "extraordinary thinking" and the hard work of young employees full of dreams and passion, ROHM developed rapidly and attracted the attention of the industry. ROHM's overseas expansion soon became a model for other companies and was eventually accepted as common business practice.

Subsidiary company

LAPIS Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has a rich lineup of digital products such as communication LSI, low-power microcontrollers, and speech synthesis LSI.

Kionix, Inc.’s small acceleration sensors with MEMS technology have established themselves as the world’s top sensors.

AGLED Co., Ltd. has been manufacturing and selling lighting fixtures since 1921 and is expanding its LED lighting business.

development strategy

1. Four growth engines

1) Integrate ROHM's analog IC and LAPIS SEMICONDUCTOR's digital IC technology to develop the automotive and industrial machine markets.

2) Component technology with SiC (silicon carbide) as the core, control technology based on power IC, and module technology that combine the two into one. Integrate three technologies to contribute to energy conservation.

3) Focusing on LED lighting, we provide complete LED solutions from LED components, driver ICs to power modules.

4) In 2009, the group was formed with Kionix, a developer of MEMS acceleration sensors, to meet all market demands for sensors with the world's top product lineup.

2. Global expansion

1) 12 development bases have been established as design centers around the world. Promote the localization process of technical personnel.

2) In order to ensure quality and quickly answer customers' questions, 10 QA centers have been set up around the world.

3) Established new sales points in 5 cities in mainland China (Changchun, Xi'an, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing). China sales network has been established in all 23 locations.

4) Establish new sales companies in India and Brazil. Participate in the development of markets in emerging countries.

3. CSR key activities

1) Promote ROHM Group CSR standardization based on ISO26000.

2) Strengthen company management through the CSR committee.

3) Actively communicate with stakeholders and strive to solve problems.

4) Reduce the burden on the global environment and contribute to global environmental issues.

4. Strengthening of the BCP (Business Continuity Plan) system

1) Thoroughly implement the production of the same product in multiple bases.

2) Re-examine inventory design to ensure safety inventory.

3) Strengthen measures to deal with flood disasters in Thai factories. (Install waterproof walls, raise the first floor floor, ensure the number of personnel, etc.)

Sensor business

The ROHM Group is proud of its rich product lineup of environmental sensors and motion sensors. In order to help customers take full advantage of the features of these sensors, ROHM has been working hard to strengthen development support. In December 2014, in order to strengthen the design and development support functions of the sensing solution business, ROHM opened a Finnish software R&D center. In addition, efforts are made to provide an evaluation environment. "Sensor Platform Evaluation Kit" is an evaluation kit that makes the evaluation and application development of various sensors easier. In addition, for wearable applications, a reference design integrating a microcontroller for controlling multiple sensors and short-range wireless communication is also provided.
