Development History

Allen-Bradley Company was first founded in 1903 by Dr.Stanton Allen and Lynde Bradley. It produced early high-density variable resistors. Early products mainly included automatic starters, switchgear, circuit breakers, and relays.

In 1985, in order to obtain diversified investments, Allen-Bradley was sold to Rockwell International for US$1.65 billion.

Allen-Bradley has become an important brand under Rockwell Automation.

Rockwell Software was formed by merging the Allen-Bradley software business unit with ICOM.

Through the US$1.6 billion acquisition of Reliance Electric, Rockwell has added motors and mechanical transmission products.

In 2001, Rockwell separated the Collins avionics and communications business into an independent Rockwell Automation company.

In the 1970s, Allen-Bradley acquired Information Instrument Company to produce solid-state control equipment.

In 1970, Allen-Bradley acquired Bunker Ramo's digital control equipment division in Cleveland.

Around 1978, Allen-Bradley's PLC-2 (1771 I/O) based on the Intel 8080 chip was launched.

Around 1979, Allen-Bradley launched the DataHighway network (DH network).

Around 1981, Allen-Bradley's PLC-3 based on AMD microprocessor came out.

Around 1986, Allen-Bradley's PLC-5 based on Motorola's 68000 chip came out.

Around 1991, the Allen-Bradley SLC500 small controller was launched.

Around 1993, Allen-Bradley Products provided Ethernet products supporting the TCP/IP protocol.

From 1993 to 1994, Allen-Bradley launched Devicenet (Device Network) open network.

In 1994, Allen-Bradley Software Division merged with ICOM to form Rockwell Software Corporation.

In 1995, Allen-Bradley launched the MicroLogix 1000 controller and Flex I/O products.

From 1998 to 1999, Allen-Bradley launched ControlLogix PLC.
