An improvement on the fluxgate magnetometer,the DC milligauss magnetometer measures a magnetic field (technically called flux density) that is several times the strength of the Earth's magnetic field.It has a resolution of 0.01 milligauss (1 nanometer) and a range of plus or minus 2000 milligauss (200 microteslas).This magnetoresistive sensor offers significant improvements in cost and stability compared to uncompensated fluxgate magnetometers.In fact,this sensor approaches proton precession magnetometers in terms of temperature stability.However,at only 1 mm x 0.2 mm,the active sensor has a much smaller area than a fluxgate magnetometer or proton sensor.This allows very precise magnetic measurements in small areas (e.g. thin films) or high gradients (if necessary)..
