The Lakeshore Germanium Resistance Temperature Sensor is recognized as a Class II Standard Thermometer and has been used to measure temperatures from 0.05 K to 30 K for nearly 40 years. The effective temperature range of germanium sensors is approximately two orders of magnitude. The exact range depends on the germanium doping. Cryogenic temperature sensors range from 0.05 K to 100 K. Between 100k and 300k,dR\/dT changes sign, and dR\/dT above 100k is small for all models. Sensor resistance varies from a few ohms at its highest effective temperature to tens of kiloohms at its lower temperatures.,because device sensitivity increases rapidly with decreasing temperature, high resolution is achieved at lower temperatures, making these resistors very useful in submillimeter wave control at 4.2 K and below.,the sensor has excellent stability at 4.2 K and reproducibility of ±0.5 mK. Germanium resistors are generally the best choice for high-precision work below 30 K. Not recommended for use in magnetic fields.
