Building on the already very successful GB4 console range, the new GB8 8-bus console will expand even further. The GB4 found many friends, inc Liverpool's Cavern club, and was used at the Bedford venue in south London. Available in 24 to 48 channels, with 4 full-featured stereo channels and 4 stereo playbacks each, the GB8 is designed for installations such as churches and performance venues,or for smaller touring sound systems. The dual-mode topology successfully implemented on the MH3 and MH4 desks allows the GB8 to be used for FOH or monitoring tasks with fader control of group or auxiliary outputs. Additional features on the GB4 include a 1kHz oscillator and a meter bridge with three LED meters, which very closely simulates the ballistics of a VU meter. Four mute groups allow several channels to be muted simultaneously, while another unique device is a limiter on the record and backup stereo outputs, which makes creating mixed stereo recordings easier. The console also features an output matrix with eleven feeding into four outputs, fed from the group bus and the main L,R and C (mono) outputs. While the GB8 is largely conventional in layout,it does have some unique mechanical features. The sturdy steel chassis has a sloping rear connector panel, making it easier to configure from the front desk, while the integral power supply has a link option for an external backup PSU. Both the GB4 and GB8 tables and chairs are hallmarks of high quality, synonymous with sound craftsmanship and engineering and design,as you would expect from this high-end manufacturer. Careful attention has been paid to the mechanical construction to ensure reliability under tough conditions, with all input modules being built with independent vertical mounting PCB’s,mounted to the steel chassis front panel with individual nut potentiometers. The GB range also shares the stylish looks of the MH4,MH3 and LX7ii consoles, continuing a strong family look and feel across the range.
